Architect Registration Exam After Education and Six Months' Approved Experience

Applicants for the Architect Registration Examination (ARE) may begin testing after education, six months' approved experience under the direct supervision of a registered architect, and enrollment in the Intern Development Program (IDP) through NCARB.  See Rule 1.41 and Rule 1.21.

Texas residents must apply for the ARE through TBAE. After your application is approved by TBAE, we will notify you that you are eligible to take the exam.

Five Year Time-Limit for Passing the Exam

All candidates must pass all parts of the exam within five years of the date they pass the first section

Important Notice

All registration requirements must be completed before you can be registered as an architect, even if you have passed all parts of the ARE. This means that you must finish all of the required experience before you can be registered as an architect.
