Foreign Degree - Landscape Architecture

To be registered in Texas, a foreign applicant must meet the same requirements as Texas registrants which includes passing the Landscape Architect Registration Examination (LARE).

To qualify to take the LARE in Texas, a candidate shall have received a professional degree from a recognized school whose study of landscape architecture is accredited by the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board (LAAB) prior to submittal of an application, or shall have had not less than seven years actual experience in the office of a registered landscape architect.

Effective August 15, 1996, Texas applicants shall process their records through the Council of Landscape Architectural Examination Boards (CLARB) (703) 818-1300. When an applicant has met the qualifications to take the LARE he or she should request that his or her CLARB file be transferred to the Texas Board. TBAE will notify the candidate that his or her file has been received, and upon receipt of the applicant's application fee, will evaluate the file to confirm that all requirements have been met.

The candidate will then be notified as to whether or not he or she is qualified to sit for the LARE. If so, further instructions will be provided. If not, the candidate will receive an explanation of what requirement(s) have not yet been met.

It is our mission to ensure a safe built environment for Texas by regulating the professions of architecture, landscape architecture, and interior design.
