Registration by Exam or Prior Exam

Please refer to Rule 5.31, Rule 5.33 and Subchapter J to review the requirements and application procedures for registration by examination.

Application Process

Apply to Texas by online application and electronic payment

  1. Create a TBAE online account/record and pay the $100 application fee.
  2. Submit your official college transcript. Review the educational requirements here before you submit your transcript(s).
  3. Provide TBAE your Proof of Legal Status.
  4. Submit your Employment verification form. Review the experience requirements here before you submit your transcript(s).

If you have already passed the NCIDQ exam

  • Request NCIDQ provide TBAE verification of your exam scores.
  • TBAE will send you confirmation when you have been approved for exam/licensure.

    Applicants who have earned at least 6 months (full time or 12 months part-time) experience under a registered interior designer, may qualify for early exam.

    Applicants with foreign education must have their college transcript evaluated by World Education Services (WES)

    Examination Requirements

    • If you began your education ON SEPTEMBER 1, 2006 OR AFTER, you must graduate from a program that has been granted professional status by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) (formerly FIDER) or the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB).
    • If you began your education before 8-31-06, THIS TABLE applies to you.
