Interior Design Exam After Education and Six Months' Approved Experience

Applicants for the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) exam may begin testing after education and six months' approved experience under the direct supervision of an interior designer. See Rule 5.31 and Rule 5.51.

Application Deadlines

  • June 1 for the Fall exam
  • December 1 for the Spring exam

Five Year Time-Limit for Passing the Exam

All candidates must pass all parts of the exam within five years of the date they pass the first section

Important Notice

All registration requirements must be completed before you can be registered as an interior designer, even if you have passed all parts of the NCIDQ exam. This means that you must finish all of the required experience before you can be registered as an interior designer.
