Building Offcials

Local building code officials interact with design professionals on a regular basis and are instrumental in ensuring that Texans enjoy a safe built environment.

When reviewing plans to meet local construction codes, building officials have a set of standards and criteria that must be met by design professionals.

One tool found to be most useful for these officials is the flowchart used to determine when an architect must be engaged on a project.

The Texas Board of Architectural Examiners has created a flowchart to better explain the requirements.

It is our mission to ensure a safe built environment for Texas by regulating the professions of architecture, landscape architecture, and interior design.
