Cathy L. Hendricks was appointed Executive Director for the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners (TBAE) in May of 1994.

Prior to joining TBAE she worked twelve years as an interior designer and president of Hendricks Design Group, Inc. in San Antonio, whose specialties were space management and interior lighting design for both residential and commercial interiors. Ms. Hendricks was instrumental in the Texas State Legislature's passage of the law establishing registration for interior designers. She co-authored a workbook for the National Council for Interior Design Qualifications examination, and taught Color and Lighting and History of Furniture courses at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

As TBAE’s Executive Director, Ms. Hendricks actively addresses issues affecting architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture as they relate to registration, regulation, and enforcement. She leads the agency in addressing the needs of Texas and in looking towards the future of the professions. She presents TBAE continuing educational programs to design professionals throughout the state of Texas. Additionally, she serves as a panelist for various AIA, TSA, ASLA, ASID, IIDA and TAID presentations, both in Texas and in other jurisdictions.

Education

Ms. Hendricks received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Interior Design from the University of Texas at Austin. Her course work involved commercial and residential interior design. She met qualifications for certification by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification in 1985. Ms. Hendricks furthered her education by receiving certificates from the Illuminating Engineering Society for completing courses in Lighting Fundamentals and Advanced Lighting.
